Less than a month remains for one lucky Arizonan to step forward and claim a potentially life-changing prize!
PHOENIX (October 19, 2021) – The Arizona Lottery is asking every Powerball player in Arizona to search their junk drawers, automobile glove boxes, couch cushions, suit and dress pockets – anywhere they might have stashed away a ticket they bought back in May that is the yet-to-be-claimed $1 million winner!
On Thursday, November 18th, 2021, a $1 million winning Powerball ticket will expire unclaimed unless the player who purchased it claims it. The big winner was purchased on May 21st, at the Circle K store, located at 7140 E. Shea Blvd, in Scottsdale, and drawn on May 22nd. The winning ticket matched five numbers, but did not match the red Powerball to hit the jackpot.
The Arizona Lottery wants players to claim their prizes, so everyone who plays the wide array of fun and exciting Scratchers® and draw games is reminded to check their tickets regularly because they may be winners right now and not even know it.
In addition to this million-dollar winner, there are currently six high-tier unclaimed prizes that could still be redeemed – $1,260,000 – so there is a lot of money out there just waiting to be claimed.
“This is an amazing opportunity for one lucky player to make their dreams come true and take home a truly life-changing win,” Arizona Lottery Executive Director Gregg Edgar said. “When a player wins big, other players are inspired to play and that results in more funds for a variety of vital programs and services across Arizona. So we encourage you all to check your tickets and look around your house before it’s too late. Who knows, this big winner might be you.”
In Fiscal Year 2021, nearly $16.5 million dollars went unclaimed. 30% of that, or almost $5 Million, went to Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, a program where volunteers are appointed by a judge to speak on behalf of abused and neglected children in court. $250,000 went to the Dual Tribal Enrollment Fund and a total of $1 million went to the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force and Victims’ Rights Fund.
The remaining unclaimed prize money was used to fund prizes for new games as well as several Arizona Lottery Players Club drawings, creating additional opportunities for players to win with qualifying ticket entries.
Tickets are valid up to 180 days after drawings take place, or, in the case of instant games, 180 days after the game has ended.
We recommend players double check their tickets using our self-serve ticket checkers, available at any of our over 3,000 retailers across the state, or on their smartphones with our free mobile ticket checker app.
